Q: It seems like it used to be much easier to get a PTP established, why are there so few PTPs available in Northern California now?
Since SB 863 took effect on 1/1/13, the new case laws have made it even more challenging for primary treating physicians (PTP) to do their job in treating injured workers. They are now required to file additional paperwork to get treatments authorized (RFA forms) and payments for their services. It has become a more burdensome process for many Workers' Compensation doctors to be able to provide the type of care many injured workers need. This has deterred many doctors from wanting to continue treating workers' compensation patients.
Ledgerwood Law Group maintains a current list of doctors that are and are not taking workers' compensation. If you are struggling with finding a primary treating physician, call us, we can help.
