Q: What other benefits do I get if I qualify for Social Security Disability/SSI?
A:
If you qualify for Social Security Disability, (“SSD”) you will also be entitled to Medicare. This entitlement begins two years after you have been receiving benefits or two years five months after qualifying for benefits. People who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (“SSI”) are automatically entitled to Medi-Cal.
Qualifying for Social Security Disability may also entitle your children or spouse to receive benefits, too. In some instances, you could even qualify for both SSD and SSI at the same time. Consider other claims, too. Are you eligible for Workers' Compensation, State Disability, Veteran's Benefits and the like?
