Q: How long will it take for a hearing to be held, a decision to be issued and for benefits to be paid?
A:
A long time. Few things move slower than the Federal Government. Lately, hearings are held about four months to eighteen months from the date a person requests one. After the hearing, it takes an average of about two to three months for a decision to be issued by a judge. After that, if you win, it takes a month or two for current benefits to begin.
